Descriptions of my four most popular classes can be found below. However new classes are occasionally offered that are not listed on this website. Contact me directly if you are interested in art quilting classes that are not described here.
Please note that because of the individual nature of art quilts, no photographs have been posted with the class descriptions. All work in class is totally unique and one-of-a-kind.

EXCITING EMBELLISHMENTS or LEAVING YOUR COMFORT ZONE – Whether it is a traditional quilt or an art quilt, embellishments can make or break it. Bring an unfinished or a ’finished’ quilt and let Janett help you take it to a new level through the use of fun and sometimes unusual embellishments. Standard embellishment items such as buttons and beads, yarns and strings are used but students are encouraged to try repurposing items like pop top tabs, candy wrappers, dryer lint, vegetable produce bags, etc. Students will first make an experimental piece from a provided kit and then later will embellish their own piece. (1-day class)
FUN WITH DESIGN AND COMPOSITION –Art quilts can be attractive and easy if a few basic concepts are followed. Join Janett as she guides you into creating a series of original art quilts using basic design fundamentals and some quick fusing techniques. After some interactive discussion, students use fabric scraps and fusing techniques to create art quilts featuring basic design concepts thus creating their own reference tools for future use. The class is a 1-day hands-on class but can be expanded to 2-days if further depth is desired. (1 or 2-day class)
MY FIRST ART QUILT – Have you wanted to try your hand at an original art quilt but did not know how to start? Janett can help you tap into the creativity that you may not know how to express. This class uses a photograph as inspiration to develop an original piece of art. A small quilt, approximately 16” X 20”, will be made in this class. Students are introduced to a variety of design concepts and construction techniques that ultimately result in the creation of a small, original one-of-a-kind art quilt. Some of the techniques include fusing, fabric collage, and basic embellishment techniques. In the 1-day class students will have enough time to make the quilt top. In the 2-day class most students finish their piece. (1 or 2-day class)
CAREFREE COLLAGES – Squares and rectangles form the basic shape of the majority of quilts made today. Join Janett for some fun while creating unique collaged wall quilts in unusual, unique shapes. Go green and use your fabric scraps or use a variety of coordinating fat quarters. Let the fabric pieces determine the shape of the piece and the interfacing maintain the shape. Techniques taught in the class include the use of a stiff interfacing, fusing, raw edge placement, and various embellishment methods. (2-day class) |
